Permanent lighting questions

It depends mostly on how many linear feet of roofline you light, whether the house is one story or two, and what your roof is made of. We do not publish a flat price because it would be wrong for most houses. The cost page lists all seven factors so you can place your own house before anybody visits.

Yes. We come out, measure the roofline, talk through what you want lit and leave you with an itemized number. If you decide against it that is genuinely fine.

Not in year one. It costs more up front and anyone claiming otherwise is selling. Over a decade the lines cross, and after that it keeps not costing you anything, plus you use it the other eleven months. The Christmas page covers that comparison.

Usually yes. Front elevation now, garage side or back patio later, normally as an extension of the same system rather than a second one. Mention it at the estimate so we size the controller with it in mind.

Like trim. The channel is color-matched to your fascia and sits in the shadow line under the roof edge. There are dusk and after-dark photos of real jobs on the permanent outdoor lighting page, and at the estimate we will show you exactly where the channel would sit on your own fascia.

It can, if it is run badly. Full-brightness rapid flashing in six colors looks exactly as bad as you think. Warm white at moderate brightness on a dusk-to-eleven schedule looks like architectural lighting. We give every customer the same advice at handover, and it is on the holiday lighting page.

Absolutely, and plenty of people do. The color capability is there if you ever want it, and if you never do, you have bought very good architectural roofline lighting.

To set up and to change things remotely, yes. Once a schedule is saved to the controller it keeps running whether or not your internet is up.

Very little. These are low-voltage LEDs and warm white at moderate brightness draws less than most people assume. We can give you the real figure for your run length at the estimate.

You call us and we come and replace that point. That is one of the actual advantages over a strand, where a failure means hunting a bulb or binning the whole thing. What is covered and for how long is written on your estimate.

Yes. The system carries a 15-year warranty. The full terms, including exactly what is covered and for how long, are written on your estimate before you agree to anything, so you are not taking a web page’s word for it.

LED modules of this type are rated in the tens of thousands of hours. The honest caveat is that controllers, connectors and power supplies are what fail first in any outdoor electronics. More on the hardware.

Most single-story Albuquerque homes are a day. Two-story homes, tile roofs and long runs can go into a second day. We tell you which yours is when we quote.

Yes. The channel is mechanically fastened into fascia, because adhesive-only mounting does not survive a New Mexico summer. It is a small number of sealed fixings, comparable to a gutter.

No. Tile cracks under foot and the damage often does not show until the next hard rain. We work off ladders at the fascia. More on roof types.

For the estimate it helps, because we are walking the house and deciding things together. For the install we mainly need exterior access and a power source for the controller.

The fixtures are specified for permanent outdoor exposure, which is the whole point of the category. Albuquerque throws serious UV, sideways August rain and occasional damaging hail at a roofline, and a seasonal strand is not built for any of it.

Not an issue. The track is fixed and the fixtures are sealed. Snow on the roof does not care what is fastened to the fascia.

Usually, because in daylight it reads as trim and color-matches your fascia. Some associations restrict color outside a holiday window; warm white almost always sits inside those rules. We will give you the spec sheet and daylight photos for a submission. If you are the HOA, this page is for you.
